Job Description summary:
What you will do
Responsible for multiple plant Materials results within one or multiple PBUs / Region. Supervise and drive implementation for supply planning, supplier delivery, and material control processes to be performed to support required customer service levels and optimize inventory levels for group of plants within this network.
How you will do it
- Aligns on the top priorities of the PBU value stream, Supply Chain and rest of the PBU functional leaders and with the global functional leaders and ensures the corresponding Materials actions are implemented to achieve the team’s goals.
- Supports Plant Materials Managers and staff; provides technical leadership input, supports performance review delivery, and development plans.
- Coordinates best practice sharing and basic standardization pertaining to Materials across the assigned plants and represents the corresponding PBU in the Best Practices Sharing Committees from the Materials standpoint.
- Directs the progress of the assigned plants in JCMS Material Control principle by acting as a JCMS MC SME which includes coaching, 2nd party assessments, kaizens, acceleration events and other roles and responsibilities as defined. Achieves and maintains Material Control SME certification to achieve these responsibilities.
- Leads Materials team in developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal or external customers, driving improved customer service and problem solving in coordination with the corresponding PBU Operations leadership team as well as with the Global Manufacturing Materials and PBU Business Customer Service and Procurement leaders (and the rest of the manufacturing Operations Leadership Team as applicable).
- Supports the selection and training of Materials Managers and Staff and required for specific businesses (e.g. Scheduling, Cycle Counts, PFEP, Supplier scheduling, Forecasting, etc.); Identifies Training needs, plans and carries out Trainings
- Commits to Materials plans and goals for the assigned plants; manages preparation of all Materials monthly reports, actions plans and analysis; manages specific research and provides analysis as requested. Reports Key Process Figures to Operations and Global Operations and Delivers Materials updates for/ at Management Review meetings
- Drives improvement of Inventory, Delivery and Supplier Delivery within PBU to meet KPI goals.
- Directs completion of Materials responsibilities in new product launches and introduction of new supply chain entities within PBU.
- Directs Supplier Delivery Improvements and Procurement Escalation activities for assigned plants globally to insure alignment with Customer Delivery expectations, and provide common guidelines for improvement among all plants.
- Approves, along with Ops Leader and IBP and Material Control Director, all Inventory Plans for applicable PBU CAR’s to ensure appropriate methodology is utilized and Excess and Obsolete inventory is minimized. Supports Inventory Planning process and approves Quarterly Forecast reviews consistency among all plants.
- Takes part in most critical customer audits to assure communication of customer requests and common answer and guidelines for improvements among all plants.
- Supports application, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS).
- Promotes safe working conditions & practices during plant visits, initiates corrective actions or process improvements as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What we look for
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or Business Administration with minimum of ten (10) years experience in a warehouse, manufacturing or production area including at least three (3) years of material management experience. Bachelor Degree requirement can be setup as an exception with commitment to complete within three (4) years of hiring date only if there are at least four (4) years of Materials Management experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required. Proficiency using ERP & MRP systems.
MBA Preferred. APICS CPIM Certification preferred or expected to be obtained from individuals taking this role within 2 years.
Leadership experience to maintain effective working relationship and communication with all plants and departments.
Understanding of manufacturing operations, supply chain, and business processes and the ability to effectively communicate and drive change in a manufacturing environment, across levels in the organization and extending to internal and external partners, is critical.
Ability to understand and clarify business needs and develop processes that achieve business objectives is a must.
Extended knowledge of ERP business systems and experience as business analyst helping to design and document processes, including implementing supporting IT tools, or ERP’s like AS/400, SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems is preferred.
Knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Shop Floor systems) to optimize transactional activity in Receiving, Line delivery and Shipping.
Knowledge of and experience working with multiple types of manufacturing operations strongly preferred.
Ability to travel 50-75% of the time
